Short Circuit Finder

Using short circuit finder connect black wire from sender to the supply 12 Volt side of fuse and the red wire from sender unit to the other side of the fuse slot.
Using the Receiver, trace continuity of the current by following the wire and note the change in the beeping sound as you run through the wire. Run the receiver unit from the red side of the sender unit end.

  1. If it is a short circuit as indicated by a blown fuse, an alternative is to connect the fuse slot shown to a Test Pen. If it lights up means there is a short circuit. Turn or twist the wire down the entire path until the light goes off. Identify that section of the wire and repair as necessary. Check again and ensure that the Test Pen do not light up when connected to the fuse slot indicating no more shorts.

  2. Rule 1:
    Perform short circuit test first.
    Rule 2:
Then perform immediately an open circuit test.
    Reason:
A wire that is broken in the middle will pass the short circuit test but fail on the open circuit test.
