Mit Throttle and Ign Timing Service

Start the Car
Warm it up
Ground the Ign timing adj terminal (brown colour) with jumper wire.
Scanner to check the TPS value for (mV) and (%) opening and record it down.
Use scanner to check idle rpm of 750±50. If ok, skip below para.

If cannot achieve the above rpm, clean the throttle body as follows:
Remove air cleaner. (remove ign timing adj jumper wire if you have earlier connected it)
Plugged the air bypass hole at the bottom.... .....

Use a screwdriver to jam the cable bracket at the side so the throttle is slightly open
Remove the throttle position sensor
Spray cleaner from the outside of the intake manifold where TPS housing is and into the throttle body
Spray also from inside and especially the TPS side of the intake manifold.
Wait for 5 minutes.
Put back TPS and adjust by connecting TPS equipment side term 3 and 4 for non-continuity with Multimeter set for 100 x in the Ω's range and 0.45mm gauge gap on throttle lever stopper end.
Make sure at idle pedal position i.e. pedal off, the scanner show the Idle Switch is OFF. If it is ON, TPS has to be adjusted lower until it turns OFF. This is important to activate/deactivate the ISC control.
Start the car and spray at the same time twisting the throttle flap up and down. Rev a few times.
Let the car idle for 1 minute checking that idling is stable and not up and down.
Remove the screwdriver and plug.
Use scanner to check if there is any fault code and delete if there is. Also check if the TPS is 9% or lower and mV value between 400mV to 1000mV.

If the above cleaning has been performed you need to check again as follows:
Ground the Ign timing adj terminal (brown colour) with jumper wire.
Use scanner to check idle rpm of 750±50.

If Still cannot achieve the above after cleaning the throttle body, this is what you have to do;

Loosen (anti-clockwise) the fixed SAS nut and turn screw until it is very loose i.e. the throttle plate is totally close.
Now turn screw clockwise until the throttle flap is about to open but still close.
Now turn 1¼ turn clockwise more and lock the nut immediately.
Make sure the cable bracket stopper is touching the fixed SAS screw.
Turn the cable bracket up and down and make sure the throttle can be opened and closed fully.
Now pull and push the inner cable and make sure there is a 1 to 2 mm of slack, if not adjust that as well.

Now ground the ign timing adj terminal (brown) wire and use scanner to check rpm is 750±50.

If Still cannot achieve the above after fixed SAS screw is adjusted, this is what you have to do;

With engine at idle speed, turn the Fast Idle speed screw at the top of the throttle body anti-clockwise to increase rpm OR clockwise to reduce the rpm. Ground the Ignition Timing Adjustment Terminal and start by turning anti-clockwise to prevent damage to the thread. Turn until you achieve the speed above.
Now check the TPS values and record down : 1. …….mV ; 2. ……%

If everything is ok , now is Ignition Timing Adjustment
If connected you must disconnect the scanner from the DLC plug. Do not use scanner.
Connect a RPM to the blue RPM check terminal at the firewall. This rpm is required for timing purpose.
Make sure the rpm reading is 750±100.
Now ground the ign timing adj terminal with a jumper wire.
Check the ignition timing is 5±2° BTDC.
If this is not the case, loosen distributor and turn as necessary. Distributor nut torque 12 Nm.
Remove the ignition timing adj jumper wire and the RPM meter.
Now check to make sure that the ignition timing is NOW -> 10° BTDC.
Note : for higher altitude it may increase to 15 °.

  1. To check for the 1 to 2mm slack on the throttle inner cable, you need to ensure that the engine is hot and turn on the ign and wait for 15 secs to activate the ISC before pulling the inner cable for the required slack.

  2. When you ground the ign timing adj terminal, one way to confirm it is to use the scanner and look under the item "Ign Timing Adj" and the value is ON. This is to ensure that the jumper wire has made proper contact with the body of the car. Similarly, the "Ign Timing Adj" should be OFF if the jumper wire is removed.
