Rear Absorber with mc pherson type strut

4G13 Rear Absorber Replacement
It is better to remove the two bolts starting with the one at the brake drum and then the bolt between the absorber to the rear suspension lower arm. Removing only the absorber bolt requires a lot of effort to pry out the absorber later leading to a lot of stressed area and possibly damage to the attachments.

When retrieving the absorber from the coil spring with the spring compressor still in place and with the dust cover still intact, do not remove the dust cover from the coil spring as this will only ripped the dust cover sides and tear it in the process. Also take note that the dust cover is approx. 1.5 inch below the threaded portion of the strut.

When inserting a new bump rubber ( absorber bush for some) , hold the rod steady and insert all the way until the top part of the bump rubber ( wider end) tip is just below the rod flange. The flange is a ring around the rod that act as a stopper and hence the bump rubber begins from here (below).

When releasing the tension on the rear absorber which is bolted to the suspension lower arm , it must be reminded that as the absorber is bolted to the side by two metal plates that form the lower arm, the tension will not be released unless the jack up point is directly below the absorber bottom. This mean a small piece of wood may be needed to be placed in between the absorber bottom and the cup of the trolley jack.
